This is a particularly rigorous set of questions. Students are asked to write an informational article about one of Leonardo da Vinci's many talents. It is modeled after the SBAC style of prompt for writing.
Do you have difficulty finding appropriate materials and comprehension work for the wide spread of readers in your room. As we all know there can be a range of wide range of abilities in a classroom. In our 3rd grade we currently have mid 1st grade to 6th grade level. We developed these to challenge our above grade level readers.
These materials are aligned with the 6 minute solution intermediate materials. We assign students leveled passages for homework all week. Then each students has rigorous questions to do that work on common core standards. My partner teacher and I then divide up the 6 levels of kids and correct their papers with them to teach them strategies of referring to the text, highlighting, underlining, and using text based evidence to answer questions.
Skills addressed: selecting a main idea and using evidence to support selection of main idea, answering questions using evidence from the text, vocabulary, writing an informational article citing evidence from the text,
