I've combined two lessons from my TpT store, The Middle Class. These lesson will give students practice in discovering why text is sometimes easy to read and why reading sometimes feels difficult. They will understand why reading history or science books have a different feel than reading a current popular novel. Both lessons will demonstrate to students that there are two major factors, WORDS and SENTENCES, that contribute to the readability of text.
In one lesson, students will analyze two different texts (each with 100 words) in order to understand how words and sentences have an effect on readability.
In the other lesson, they will learn how to turn high-level sentences into lower level simply by changing the words and length of sentences.
All worksheets guide students step-by-step to successfully complete the worksheets.
