Help your students practice finding key ideas, main ideas and supporting details. This unit is focused on the CCSS standard RI2.1, 2.2. Hopefully, even if you are not teaching Common Core, this unit will still be helpful to use to help students identify important ideas and the details that support those ideas.
I have found that my students love learning about famous people. As they learn about new people or places, they are happy to practice their critical thinking skills. The activity pages and questions lead to lively discussions and help them clarify in their own minds which facts are important. This unit provides brief informative text about 6 famous queens. Although designed around 2nd grade standards, this unit would also be a good for 3rd grade review.
Activities include graphic organizers, questions and matching activities with a focus on Key Ideas, Main Ideas and Supporting Facts.
In this unit, you will get:
-teacher notes with lesson ideas
- 6 text pages
- 11 activity pages for students to practice identifying key ideas, main ideas and supporting details
-4 pages summative assessment
There is a preview where you can see all of the included pages.
