I found that a lot of my students (kindergarten and first grade) were not reading for meaning or thinking about what they were reading, so I created this reading comprehension pack as a solution.
This packet has the materials to make TWO file folder activities: one for fiction texts (blue) and one for nonfiction texts (pink). Students can use these file folders in buddy/partner reading to spark a discussion on the elements of the stories they read. For the fiction folder, there are comprehension pictures for characters, setting, plot, characters' feelings, your questions, and your favorite part. For the nonfiction folder, there are comprehension pictures for main idea, details, facts, opinions, your questions, and your favorite part. As students discuss each element, they can move the picture down from the "thought bubble" to the empty spaces so that they know what they have discussed already.
The pictures can also be used by gluing them to a popsicle stick and having students pull out elements of the story to discuss in reading.
In addition, each pack includes 8 different comprehension writing prompts that can be used, for a total of 16 prompts! Each writing prompt has two options, one with smaller lines and one with larger lines. You can choose which prompts best fit your students' needs!
If you prefer to purchase the packs individually, they can be found here:
