These are 2 of my reading comprehension menus. The menus may be used in class or as part of your homework routine. The menus provide students with a number of reading response activities, for both fiction and nonfiction books. There are a number of activities that students can choose from; students can chose their own or they can be told what to do.
The activities are common core standards based. The tasks were formed using Depth of Knowledge (DOK) questions. The activities are divided into groups; the groups are reading, grammar, art and reading skills. Each activity is straight forward, so after basic instructions, students can use the menus independently. The activities are scaffold, so all students able to read will find something they can do. In my classroom, I had students complete the activities in a reading response journal, after they wrote the title author and illustrator. However, you may use them as you wish. Once students have completed a reading response activity they shaded in the box. This allowed me to quickly identify how much work students have completed and what I have to check.
