Making Inferences and predictions can be hard for readers. I was always looking for something for my students to read that would help them practice this skill. I have written 5 reading comprehension passages that is focused on inferring with in the text. This comprehension packet is a page long containing 6 questions each passage. The teacher has the option to use multiple choice or short answer. The short answer option is great for challenging your readers, and higher level thinking. Multiple choice may be best for a student needing modifications, working independently, or for easier grading.
I decided to go with a page long because it is great to pull a small group, or work one on one with any level student. Listening to them read the passage and think through their answer choice can help the teacher recognize the students strengths with this skill. These comprehension passages can be used for independent work, small group, centers, homework or even for a sub binder.
There are 6 questions for each passage. Five of the questions are inferencing questions (making predictions), and one of the questions is for vocabulary/using context clues.
I hope you enjoy this activity. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
