Description

Can be used for differentiated distance learning during COVID-19! Print at home, parent-friendly instructions for each passage! Rest assured that students will be reading at their appropriate reading level at home, encouraging growth during distance learning!

This product is designed to teach fluent readers to not only read, but look for text – based evidence while they answer questions! The passages and questions are simple, yet develop essential skills.

This may be a first interaction with multiple choice questions, so take time to review how to answer questions. I teach my students to read the questions first so they know what to look for while they read!

Common Core Standards for 3 & 4 are addressed in these passages/questions:

ELA.RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.

ELA.RL.3.4 Determine the meaning of general academic and domain specific words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 3 topic or subject area.

ELA.RL.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

ELA.RL.4.4 Determine the meaning of general academic and domain specific words or phrases in a text relevant to a grade 4 topic or subject area.ELA.RI.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.

ELA.RI.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

This packet contains 6 reading passages (3 nonfiction & 3 fiction) with a pre-reading graphic organizer, 4 multiple choice questions & 3 short response questions, and one extended written response question to accompany each passage!

I hope these passages can be helpful to you in your guided reading groups! They could also be sent home as homework to do with parents.
