Product Description
Your middle school and high school students will be motivated to read these inspiring stories centered on empathy, compassion and forgiveness. Close reading, comprehension, vocabulary and higher level thinking are at the center of these NO PREP reading passages.

Reading Comprehension: Stories of Empathy contains three high-interest reading units. Your students will love reading about the unlikely friendships between:

♥ The Rabbi & the KKK
♥ The Mothers of 9/11
♥ The POW & his Torturer

I have also provided links to YouTube videos that support each story!

Each unit contains five research-based activity sheets with answer keys to develop higher-level thinking skills including:

• Vocabulary & Semantics
• Comprehension & Inferences
• Main Ideas, Themes & Details
• Compare/Contrast & Syntax
• Similarities/Differences

Questions have been carefully constructed to include basic detail/main idea questions to higher-level questions where students provide opinions, integrate knowledge and cite text evidence. Each reading passages and its corresponding activities offer numerous session’s worth of academic language opportunities.

I created this resource to not only help students with academic-language skills, but to also contribute positively to the social narrative. We are surrounded with stories of violence, racism and revenge. This resource is a small contribution to provide thought-provoking materials that will inspire understanding and promote peace.

Thanks so much!
Daria O’Brien
