Included are 18 original informational texts about animals. They are highly engaging to students and include both “right there” questions and inferential questions, both requiring students to go back in the text for evidence. These questions spiral many non-fiction reading comprehension skills and grades 3-5 standards, including:

-Using context clues to determine word meaning

-Comparing/contrasting

-Text structure

-Author’s POV

-Inferencing

Main idea/supporting details

-Text features

-and more!

You can choose between using the 18 full-page printables or the 18 half-page task cards. The text and (3) questions on both sets are the same. I’m offering two different formats to best meet the needs of teachers and their students.

The full-page printables are completely in black and white and have the questions typed out at the bottom with lines for students to answer on.

The half-page task cards are in color and have the questions typed out to the side. Students will need to answer on a piece of notebook paper or in a station journal. These still print well in black/white.

Whether you use the task cards of the full-page printables, they’d be perfect for—

-Stations

-Morning work

-Small group

-Independent practice

-Homework

-Spiral review

-Test prep
