Description

This is a sample set of my comprehension reading passages that include sight word and text evidence practice with each page! This resource will encourage students to go back into the text and prove their answers all while learning their sight words!

Sight word practice leads to reading fluently! With this reading resource, students will read short stories that include Dolch and Fry sight words to help them build up their sight word fluency. The questions included in the passages require students to go back into the text to find and locate text evidence which will drastically improve their comprehension. Students will enjoy finding text evidence and coloring their answers as they learn how to read with these fun passages!

The full bundle allows the teacher to pull passages based on the needs of the student so differentiation can occur. As students are working towards mastery of sight words, it is important that they are able to read and comprehend the text at their level. These differentiated short passages allow sight word mastery to occur while also supporting students as they learn how to locate text evidence.

These passages are perfect for small group, teacher center, independent practice, partner work, sight word assessments, intervention (RTI / MTSS Progress Monitoring) or even homework!

How do I use these passages with my students?

You can use these passages as whole group, small group, or independent practice. I encourage the teacher to read the sight words first, then read the text aloud to model fluency. Next, students can have a try and take turns reading. Once they finish, they will color text evidence in response to comprehension questions. After locating their answers in the text, they will go on a sight word hunt! They will go back into the text to locate their sight words and highlight them.

You may even use the sight word chart as a quick check for fluency with their sight words. Call over the students independently and have them read each word in the box to you and record their score.

Although there are several passage options for students, my format remains the same so that your students will understand the procedure of reading and locating textual evidence.

When students practice the procedure of going back into the text, their comprehension drastically improves. Add sight word practice on top of that, and it is a win-win!
