The Focused Reading curriculum addresses students who have comprehension difficulty in the presence of well-developed decoding skills. The premise is that these readers are fully capable of understanding what they read if they focus completely on the text at hand. But many students think about something else while reading; they are distracted readers.
Focused Reading (FR) puzzles force students' minds to focus because they cannot solve the puzzle unless they do so. FR puzzles also work on critical thinking, logic, reasoning, and visualizing. These are particularly effective with kids who have attention issues or are on the autism spectrum.
