Reading Comprehension Pyramid: We teach our students so many comprehension strategies and terms that it's helpful to show them how these terms relate to one another. This pyramid shows how the whole text is the greatest amount of information. A summary of the text is less information. The main story elements (for fiction) or the content of text features (for nonfiction) are slightly less information. The main idea is just a sentence or two. Finally, the topic is just one or two words.

This file includes a color copy to use as an anchor chart and a black and white copy that can be used in student notebooks.
