Product Description

These spinners were created to engage students in higher order thinking skills for reading comprehension. They were designed by Kelly Avery and intended to be used for teacher guided reading groups or for the Daily Five's component of Read to Someone.

The actual spinner mechanism will need to be added, but can probably be found in some old math manipulatives or purchased inexpensively at your local teacher supply store.

The programmed questions that I have used on the ocean/pirate themed spinners follow the Common Core State Standards for addressing critical thinking skills. The spinners have questions that will address the following concepts:

*main idea

*author's purpose

*vocabulary skills

*problem and solution

I have also included a blank template in this download for teachers who are interested in changing the questions or theme of my spinners.
