These 43 short and simple reading passages
were created to give young learners an opportunity to practice fluency, comprehension, written response, and phonics.
The fun passages all contain decodable words and sight words. Each passage focuses on a specific phonics skill, to help maximize learning.
Students read the passages three times, (coloring in a number after each read) which builds fluency, and answer three text-dependent questions, helping them learn the importance of finding the evidence in the text. In addition to writing the answers, students also use crayons to highlight where they found the answers in the text, which helps check for accuracy. They also illustrate the story.

These passages were created with kindergarten and first grade students in mind. But, they can also be used for second graders who need a little more practice with these skills.
