Description
These 40 reading comprehension stories were designed to maximize learning. Each sheet highlights a different long vowel (silent e) and contains a short story that uses three or more words with the same long vowel.
To complete, students read the story and highlight the long vowel words. Then, they answer three comprehension questions about the story. A picture that matches the story is included to help students visualize the story. Last, they practice writing three silent e words from the page.
Students will use the basic elements of phonetic analysis to decode any unknown words. They will also use the title of the story and meaning clues in the story to help them make predictions in order to answer the questions.
Each activity sheet comes in two different versions, so you can easily differentiate learning in your classroom. The first version has multiple choice questions. In the second version, students write in the answers.
Students will really benefit from reading the sentences and analyzing the pictures and then using the content in the sentences and the pictures to answer the questions. This will give them tons of practice with “finding the evidence” in the text.
