As you teach each Reading Comprehension strategy, provide your students with visual cues. Each visual cue is printable and can be used as a devise to deepen understanding of each strategy. Students will cut and paste each visual cue into their Active Notebook. In an “Active Notebook”, learning does not go away, you need to continue to review and “run” back to remember each strategy. When you introduce a strategy begin by placing the visual cue in the Active Notebook (ELA spiral notebook). Read texts that are complex and at their reading level and refer to the visual cue as you practice and apply each strategy to their reading. Strategies are just words on a page or whiteboard.
With visual cues, student can begin to SEE the purpose as they learn.
