This packet is a resource for helping students learn and use comprehension strategies. These strategies are the strategies that good readers use without even thinking about it. Teaching students these strategies will help them become more purposeful and active readers. Students are encouraged to not just read the words on a page, but think about what they are reading. In thinking about the text they will better understand what it is they are reading.
The set includes 7 strategy posters (questioning, connecting, visualizing, important details, inferring, monitoring, and retelling). There are 2 student pages which list the strategies. They are the same, but one has a picture of a boy and one of a girl (in case you have a preference). There are 2 Retell Helper pages. One is in color and the other is in black and white. There are 4 resource pages, one for retell, one for making connections, one for important details, and one for inferencing. There are also 14 comprehension pages. These pages include a short story and then encourage students to focus on a specific strategy.
