Looking to prepare your students for upcoming standardized tests? This lesson is loaded with ways to attack both main idea and drawing conclusions and passages are differentiated. Some are more difficult using deeper critical thinking skills and some have the main idea stated in the passage. Both narrative and expository texts are included in this set. Students will find the reading to be high interest reading passages. This set contains a complete set of main idea questions and a complete set of questions about drawing conclusions for 15 different passages. It can be used in a variety of ways including large group mini lesson to introduce the two concepts; small group lessons in which students read and work on the passages and pass them around; or in an independent reading station or center. I have written 15 different passages and then I have posed questions that ask about the main idea of each passage and what conclusion can be drawn from the passage. Each set of cards are color coded so they can be separated and you can work on only Main Idea or only Drawing Conclusions. A student recording sheet has been included along with an answer key. A grade can easily be taken of both parts of this lesson or the recording sheet can be used just to keep track of answers and compare them later in a discussion.
