This set of 25 task cards comes in both color and black and white.
Being able to compare and contrast when reading is an important skill. However, it can be difficult to master, especially in the context of a lengthy text. These task cards enable students to work on comparing and contrasting at the word level. They encourage students to think critically about words and then determine how they are related using key transition phrases.
On each card there are two words. Students must create sentences that explain how the two words are the same, and how they are different. Each card has a word bank to help students with compare/contrast words. A recording sheet is included if you would like your students to write down the sentences they create. Students can work on these individually, in partners, or in small groups. These would be perfect for literacy centers as well.
Students have a lot of fun with these task cards and often see them as a game. They do not even realize that they are developing critical reading and writing skills!
