A total of 12 reading task cards with various literacy task
- Six task cards with a focus on identifying the central message
- Six task cards with a focus on identifying the meaning of a word in context
- Answer recording page for students
- Answer key
Suggestion for use:
Make one copy of each of the task cards. Make copies for each student of the recording page.
Place the tasks cards in various learning spaces. Make sure students have room to view the task card for extended time, and have a hard surface on which to write.
Provide students with individual copies of the recording page. Allow them to move around the room from task card to task card, writing their answers on the recording page.
Facilitate students’ work time, by checking in on students’ recording page. When you check a student’s answer and it is correct, check the “teacher check” box to provide positive feedback to the students and encourage them to review passages they may have made a mistake on.
When students have finished, have a whole class discussion about each card. Ask students to share their ideas about how they determined and can justify their answer. This will help students’ see the same reading passage through a different lens.
