Description

This reading comprehension resource provides a strategy for identifying topic, main idea, and details in non-fiction paragraphs and articles. Students can use the strategy to help improve their reading comprehension with non-fiction text.

Assign the short reading comprehension passages as bell ringers, add them to the end of a language arts assessment, or assign as homework a few days a week to improve comprehension. The brief reading passages provide great practice for close reading and standardized tests.

Resource Includes:
CCSS (4th grade)
Student notes for finding topic, main idea, and details within a paragraph
10 non-fiction reading passages
1-2 paragraphs per reading selection
4-5 multiple choice questions per reading selection (standardized test format)
Answer keys for all worksheets

* Glaciers
* Llamas
* Mayan Records
* Ben Franklin’s Kite
* Animated Movies
* Erosion
* Book Review
* Fly Geyser
* Goodyear
* Cats

You may be interested in my Topic, Main Idea, and Details Product, which provides more specific practice with finding topic, main idea, and details correctly while reading.

I also have an Analogies and Verbal Reasoning Product. Another great tool for standardized test preparation!
