Need an independent activity to accompany science unit on sea life while you work with small groups? Hoping to expand students’ knowledge of animal adaptations? Looking for some engaging long-weekend homework? Trying to plan ahead and make an emergency substitute folder? This product has you covered on all counts!
Copy the packet front to back. You may want to copy the shark tooth vocabulary page at the end separately, especially if you want students to cut the tooth out for a “sharp” display.
Once these are copied and stapled in the top left-hand corner, students can get to work! They will read about how sharks use their incredible senses and fins to hunt prey, all the while using text features to build their understanding. Questions throughout the text help students focus on the included text features and vocabulary. Students are asked to highlight words and context clues. Additionally, your class will apply what they’ve learned to create a story from the point of view of a shark explaining how he or she uses the aforementioned body parts and senses to capture prey. Add the cool shark’s tooth vocabulary activity, and you’ve covered much instructional ground.
Necessary answer keys are included at the end of the packet. Enjoy!
