This Unit of Study is about how to dissect difficult passages by using grammatical analysis mixed with vocabulary hints. I show the same simple sentences in both German and French in historical order. Designed for ESL students who probably understand the grammar of their own language, these ideas can be taught in conjunction with other items on the Grade 7 curriculum and up.
I have used a colour&underlining code. These are the Key Questions: Which one is it? Who did it? What did he do? To Whom did he do it? When did he do it? Where did he do it? Why did he do it? How did he do it?
I apologize to all of you for being familiar with only my own language. I have used Google Translate and had those translations vetted by people who speak those languages. I feel that by seeing the translations, your students will have a better understanding of how English is a blend of German and French, and they will see better the patterns of these simple sentences.
