This is a 5 page reading lesson that fosters vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. After 1 ½ pages of informational text about knighthood, there are 12 multiple choice questions for reading comprehension and 13 matching questions on vocabulary words and their definitions. Comprehension skills are: finding details, drawing conclusions, making inferences, and determining causes and effects. Vocabulary words taught and tested are: Middle Ages, Medieval Period, chivalry, page, squire, knight, noblemen, peasants, manor, loyal, injustice, championed, bestow, tactics, ideals, tactics, wealthy, noblemen, merit, feeble, fencing, and valet. This lesson could also be used in social studies class or to supplement literature you have that is set in the Middle Ages. Your students will be interested in the content of the lesson as they learn about the purpose of having knights, stages of training knights went through, how they were granted knighthood, and the code of behavior knights were encouraged to follow. You also get a full drawing of a knight in armor on horseback. The 6th page is the answer key. Being a word document this lesson is easy to print and edit if you find it necessary.
