Having trouble keeping students focused and taking notes while reading?
How to use:
Vocabulary graphic organizer: Have students find words in what they are reading that they do not know the definition of, then have them write what they think the word means based on the context of the word (i.e., sentence), finally, have them look up the definition and check their definition based on the actual definition.
Main idea graphic organizer: Have students write the main idea of each paragraph in the text. For the next column, have students make connections to the main idea by finding supporting details in the text. In this I talk a lot to my students about paraphrasing and not using complete sentences so that they can study adequately from it.
