This is a 4.5-page short story, narrative/opinion genre, which is designed to help students develop reading comprehension skills. The story is original (my writing but using a pen name), and contemporary taking place in today's setting. I have tried this story with my students and had very good response. The title is "Bookends", which refers to how the narrator perceives two periods of life, teen years and senior-adult years, as being similar. The piece is written with easy examples and some humor involved to make identification with these extreme states interesting. The point is for tolerance between both groups as well as understanding that they are both challenging times. There are 20 multiple choice questions including genre, setting, etc. (so students need to know some literature terms, or teach them as you go). Answers with brief explanations are also included. There are 11 pages total. This is story #2 of a series of 5 pieces intended for reading comprehension.
