Yes! You can get your kindergarteners and first graders to engage in conversations about books!

This resource encourages your students,as young as kindergarten, to engage and talk about books!

This Reading Comprehension resource, created for K-2 and beyond, was designed for a Kindergarten teacher who wanted to use language to get her Kinders talking about books and engaging with stories and text.

This product was developed for her class and can be used in different ways.
After introducing and modeling, you can use this resource in these ways:

★ It can be integrated into Literacy Stations/Daily 5 Read to Self

★ Read to a Partner

★ Used in Guided Reading groups to teach comprehension strategies and support higher order thinking.

They are color coded: Bouncing Ideas is red; Summarize it is yellow; Questing is blue; Huh? I’m Confused is green and What’s the Main Idea is pink.

These color coded Strategies are consistent with the posters/signs for individual strategies and the strategy strips/conversation starters. This can be adapted for any grade level!

Here’s What is Included:

★ 1 poster to show the language used for “Bounce” Ideas.

★ 4 signs One for each sentence starter for “Bounce” Ideas with examples of
how the language used can help you better understand what is read.

★ I poster for “Summarize it” with appropriate language sentence starters.

★ 4 signs One for each sentence starter for “Summarize it ” Ideas with examples
of how the language used can help what is read.

★ 5 signs One for each sentence starter for “Questioning” with questions to ask
with examples of how the language used you better understand what is read.

★ 1 Poster for “Questioning” with questions to use to help kiddos get started
with questioning to better understand an help you better understand what you
read.

★ 1 Poster for “I’m Confused” with statements to use to help kiddos get started
with monitoring their understanding to better understand what is read.

★ 5 signs One for each sentence starter for “I’m Confused” with ideas of
examples of how the language used can help you better understand what is
read.

★ 1 Poster for “Main Idea” with statements to use to help kiddos get started with
figuring out the main idea to better understand what is read.

★ 4 signs One for each sentence starter for “Main Idea” with ideas of examples
of how the language used can help you better understand what is read.

★ Strategy conversation starter strips for each strategy.

These signs, statements and posters will get your kiddos talking about books and gain a better understanding of what they read!
