Ways to get Your Students to Engage and Talk about Books As Young As Kindergarten! Created for K-2 and Beyond was designed for a Kindergarten teacher who wanted to use language to get her Kinders talking about books and engaging with stories and text. This product was developed for her class and can be used in different ways. After introducing and modeling, it can be integrated into Literacy Stations/Daily 5 Read to Self, Read to a Partner and used in Guided Reading groups to teach comprehension strategies and support higher order thinking. They are color coded: Bouncing Ideas is red; Summarize it is yellow; questing is blue; Huh? I’m Confused is green and What’s the Main Idea is pink. These color coded Strategies are consistent with the posters/signs for individual strategies and the strategy strips/conversation starters. This can be adapted for any grade level!
