This is intended to help you record the behaviours of individual students during a reading conference using any text. There is space for you to record errors and self-corrections as you would with standardized reading assessments in order to track a student`s strengths and areas for growth. (There are spaces to make notes on these too—I like to make notes right after reading with students to facilitate communicating with parents and writing reports.)
Underneath the recording spaces are examples of the behaviours I am most likely to track organized into the following categories: Reading Behaviours, Decoding Strategies, Comprehension Strategies and Meta-cognitive Skills. I use a highlighter to quickly track which behaviours or strategies students are using as they read.
I have also included a class tracking sheet with each of the behaviours to facilitate creating guided reading groups if you are so inclined.
