This is a reading about the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I give this reading to students before we discuss the atomic bomb and the effects it had on the people.
This reading includes several primary sources from various perspectives about the thinking that went into decision to drop the bomb. The second part of the reading includes the background of Truman and how events unfolded in his decision to drop the bomb.
Students have three questions to answer, but the first requires them to write a paragraph about what they think the United States should have done (they have to use the reading to back up their opinions).
