Students' charting their own products is a research-based practice and helps build accountability and pride in students. These graphs can be used with progress monitoring programs such as DIBELS or AIMsweb, or for your own personal progress monitoring.
This is also a versatile product, not only can it be used to measure words per minute (wpm), but you could also use it for documenting sight word fluency or mastery.
I usually talk with my students when we first start the graphs and help them figure out a reasonable goal and then mark it on their graph. Then I have them graph in their scores each week. They love to try to beat their score!
