Video shows the Nonsense Words Game being played in a classroom. Check the "supporting documents" on this page to download the game pieces.- This letter sound practice game is high interest for beginning readers. In this NWF game, students draw a card and read the nonsense word. If they can correctly read the word, they get to keep the card and put on their "toy box" (game mat). If the child draws a "rotten egg" or "underwear" card, then they lose a card. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game "wins". (But, we all know that the real winner is you, because you are getting your students to have fun while reading! For game play durability, laminate the game board mat and cards. You will be able to play this game for years to come! This NWF game is perfect for literacy stations or for use with small group reading lessons. It would also be well suited to RTI intervention students who are struggling to learn letter sounds. This game is perfect practice to raise your DIBELS scores and improve the reading fluency of your students.
