We know that reading a variety of genres tends to increase student comprehension. However, sometimes teachers have difficulty keeping track of the genres that their students read throughout the year. Is there a student in your class who reads mainly the same genre all year long? Here is an easy way for you and your students to keep track of the different types of genres they read during Language Arts. After a unit or a review of genres have your students start to record the books they read independently, discuss during guided reading, or hear read by the teacher. This graph makes it easy to get a quick idea of the genres you need to recommend to your students to read.
