Your middle schoolers can set, track, and assess their own monthly independent reading goals with this pack of student-facing resources!
Unfortunately, middle school is often a time when students' independent reading lives decline as kids learn to juggle increasing responsibilities or just lose interest in reading. However, grades 6, 7, and 8 are still a crucial time for reading growth on the path to high school success.
I have been using these resources for many years to support students' active and self-directed reading lives outside the "required reading" of class. We use the goal-setting form, daily reading log, & rubrics for targeted reading conferences about reading level and reading volume. The yearly tracking sheet, & book log are great for helping students see their growth over time.
