In my classroom, I'm constantly reinventing the wheel to help my students in the goal setting process. I had a friend and colleague introduce me to the CAFE system invented by the two sisters of Daily Five.
CAFE stands for C ~ comprehension, A ~ Accuracy, F ~ Fluency, and E ~ Expanded Vocabulary.
Under each of the four C.A.F.E. headings, you will find kid friendly goal setting phrases that children will transfer into their goal setting form.
This makes goal setting a breeze for our readers!!!
Included in this packet you will find a binder insert along with all the C.A.F.E skills and a student goal setting form. (This goal setting form is handy in that one page allows for four weeks worth of goal setting at a glance.)
In my classroom, each child has a Reader's Workshop folder with this tool. I copy enough of the "goal setting" forms for a whole year's worth. What a wonderful opportunity for the students to see themselves grow as readers! It is also a great conversation piece when conferencing with individual students!
Best Wishes ~
