Easily edit this document to fit any reading material. This graphic organizer helps students read with purpose. Students preview the content of their reading material by first reading a list of claim statements. Next, students read and look for evidence that proves or disproves the claims. Students take notes in the proof for and proof against column. Finally, students will decide if they agree or disagree with the claim and mark their choice. Students can then work in small groups to collaborate and negotiate on their decisions about the claim statements.
This graphic organizer includes claim statements that can be analyzed, supported, and refuted using text from the Holt textbook United States History, pages 725- 726, however you can edit the claim sentences to match any reading material you choose.
