These graphic organizers for any book help students identify topics, details and main ideas. Use them to practice or assess reading comprehension on informational/non-ficiton books.
This set of 25 graphic organizers offers students varying levels of support as they practice skills related to identifying topics and key details, as well as main ideas and supporting details. This set moves from the most basic (simply identifying the topic of a text) to more challenging skills (including identifying the focus of different paragraphs, or identifying the main idea and supporting details.) Progress through the variety of organizers as your students advance in their skills. They can also be used to differentiate within large and small group instruction, allowing students to practice the skills that are "just right" for them!
The set includes graphic organizers to practice the following (and more!):
~topic and key details (2-4 details; lined and unlined)
~main topic and focus of paragraphs (2-3 paragraphs)
~main idea and supporting details
~identifying facts represented in illustrations
~using both illustrations and text (words) from text to describe key details
~explain the purpose of specific images in the text
~use information from illustrations to demonstrate understanding
Additionally, the set includes color posters defining the topic, details and informational illustrations. Plus there is a checklist for monitoring student progress (divided by grade level Common Core standards).
