If you use an interactive reading journal or notebook with your students, these graphic organizers will be a great addition to all of the flippables and other activities you may already have.
Sometimes I want my students to do something specific in their journal and we simply don't have time to do all of the cutting and folding that some interactive notebook activities require. Don't get me wrong, I love the cutting, folding, and coloring, but some days are shorter on time than others. I might be low on time, but I still want them to keep their activity in their journal.
Sure, kids could also just draw these organizers in their journals, but sometimes I find that by the time kids draw crooked lines, and oblong circles all over their paper, they have nowhere to write. :-)
Also, I think organizers give kids a purpose.
I made these half page organizers very basic, hence the name Plain Jane. There are no images, which actually makes them perfect for older kids. They are not foldable. They are basically organizers with a cute font and border and that's about it. They are right to the point of what the expectation is.
They also make a perfect center activity.
They are made 2 to a page (1/2 page size), so that when students cut around the border, it will fit right in the journal, and since all cuts are rectangles, it is great for those short days.
The organizers included are on these topics:
*Step by Step
*Who, What, Where, When, Why
*Visualization (illustration box)
*Summarize - beginning, middle, end
*5 blank organizers to be used how you specify
