I’ve created this reading guide to encourage my ESL students to read English literature in the original. “The Moon and Sixpence” is one of my favourite novels, so it was a pleasure to work with it.
This guide is meant to be used for classes of intensive reading when students are assigned a short part of a novel to read at home. Each chapter of the reading guide invites a reader to look up the key vocabulary, do a couple of vocabulary exercises and look for the answers to several questions in the novel itself. It encourages active and attentive reading. In class, I use these tasks to lead a discussion and to practice the use of the new vocabulary.
The guide is designed as an interactive pdf with an option of making notes directly in the file.
