This is an Independent Home Reading Incentive Program I had done when I was an elementary librarian. The goal is for students to read at least 30 minutes a night. Each student receives a calendar to document the minutes read each night. At the end of the month I would collect them and enter the number of minutes each student read into an excel document. This would would then add up how many minutes each individual student read, the minutes each class read, the minutes each grade read and how many minutes the school read that month.
Each month students would receive a certificate if they reached a milestone - 500,1000, 2000, etc. The students from each grade with the most minutes read would also receive a certificate. In addition to certificates teachers and administration would offer incentives - pizza party for class if they reached a certain milestone or lunch with principal for top readers each month - there's so many ways to reward students for reading!
This is a wonderful program that encourages students to read and it also produces a great deal of data to measure individual growth in students and to assess overall how much the school is reading when they go home.
Included in this product is:
- Introduction Letter
- Blank calendar with minutes on each day for students to circle how many minutes they read
- Certificate for reaching minute milestones
