“Let Me Read for You”

A great way to teach reading that is fun and phonetic!
This is a progressive program.
Each weekly unit builds on the unit before it!
Units contain a color-coded Power Point that can be shown (daily) on your interactive white boards. Each unit also includes a package of activities to be used in reading centers or Guided Reading groups. The units can provide enough activities for a a week of reading instruction. I tend to alternate weeks between Literacy Based reading instruction and phonetic reading instruction-taking time to include both whenever possible. This program strengthens phonetic skills, builds sight vocabulary, teaches and reteaches reading and writing mechanics such as capitalization and punctuation in a fun and interesting way. My students have felt great success reading the words and stories and creating their own reading books to practice and have fun with throughout the year.
The Powerpoints include:
Words from a new word family (at, ap, am,an in, it etc). Words are color coded for easy learning/and then in just black and white.
Stories that build upon words learned in previous units and words from the new phonetic word family. Stories are copied and pasted into individual blank books for each child. Stories include sight words/sound words/and fun bonus words that the children just love to learn to read!
Mixed review of words learned in previous units
Sight Words reviewed and several new sight words introduced in each unit.
High Interest Bonus words such as pizza, friend, banana, baseball that kids love to read.
Reading and Writing Mechanics introduced in each unit such as capitalization and punctuation. Previous slides are included in each unit for review.
Powerpoints are fun, bright, un-cluttered and easy to read.
Words and stories are introduced with pictures and then without pictures for reading practice.
The Reading Group Reinforcement Units include:
Fun stories for reading-we paste these into individual reading books which collect throughout the school year. Students can use these in reading groups and during independent reading time.
Sound words and pictures to cut and paste
Phonics Worksheets-fill in the missing letters
Phonemic Manipulation-cut and manipulate letters to form words from given word family
Sentence words to cut and paste into a given sentence on a sentence strip. (After students finish cutting and pasting the sentence the practice reading with voice-print matching and illustrate it on an index card which is then glued to the sentence strip.)
Sight Words ‘Cloze’ worksheets and answer guide-put together and sent home for home practice. Parents can cut sound words and use as flash cards.
Paint the words with cotton swabs or paint brush worksheet
Word family flip books
Word family house
Sight Words-color coded-cards to copy onto card-stock and add to a book ring for each child-we keep these in our cubbies and take out during writing workshop time. Bonus words are also included on word cards.
EACH UNIT BUILDS SEQUENTIALLY ON THE ONE BEFORE IT!
EACH UNIT REVIEWS THE PRIOR UNITS MATERIALS AND THEN ADDS NEW MATERIAL.
