Decoding Multisyllabic Words-Freebie

This intervention provides teachers and parents with a strategy for teaching or reteaching valuable word attack skills to upper elementary students in a small group support model. Cracking the Code is designed to accelerate the learning process for grade 3 and close upper grade students’ reading gaps in grades 4 and above quickly.

This freebie reteaches 9 vowel sounds (short vowels and CVCe) and features 5 prefixes.

This intervention contains:

•An explicit approach to developing a word attack strategy for reading multi-syllabic, silent-e pattern words.

•2 sound/symbol cards corresponding to short and long vowel silent-e combinations.

•Student printable pages that support guided and independent practice for reading and spelling multi-syllabic words.

As a Resource Specialist, I have been teaching reading intervention groups for many years and these are the interventions that work for me! I use these programs for small group instruction, no more than 10 minutes a day, and often send them home with parents who are looking to support their child at home. My work is also great to offer as an RTI intervention.
