Do you have readers in your 4th and 5th grade classroom who are reading on a 2nd/3rd grade level? If so, you know how difficult it is to provide reading instruction to grow them as readers while also exposing them to grade level standards. I created this set of reading intervention skill printables to meet this very real need.

Note: This reading intervention set now includes a digital version with an audio component! In Google Classroom, the students can click an audio button and listen to the story read aloud by a professional voice talent actor. Your students will love listening to the stories read aloud!

About this Reading Intervention Resource

This reading intervention resource was created to support students who read at lower levels with grade level skills.

The stories included in this resource are written at a 2nd/3rd grade reading level but provide practice in grade level skills for 4th and 5th grade.

The stories are also written with appropriate themes and contexts for upper elementary students. (Note: These are still "parent appropriate themes and contexts." They are definitely more engaging than reading stories meant for 2nd graders, but they are still school-appropriate.)

This set includes fiction skills only. A separate nonfiction skills set is in the works.

The skills included in this reading intervention resource are story elements, theme, inferences, point of view, context clues, similes and metaphors, and idioms.

These reading printables can be used for reteaching small groups, guided reading, reading centers, or independent reading practice.

There are 31 practice printables included in this resource. See below for the breakdown by skill.
