MY NOVEL READING JOURNAL is a reading journal with fun daily reading activities to encourage independent, reflective reading.
This reading journal consists of 5–10 minute tasks that encourage students to:
• think creatively and critically
• write imaginatively
• read for insight and pleasure
• draw and design based on their reading
- with activities to do before, during and after the reading of a chosen novel.
I have used this reading journal as a homework project for students aged 11.
I have also used this reading journal with a form class, during guided reading and independent reading times. The students enjoy being able to choose from a range of fun and unusual approaches to reflecting on their reading.
The reading journal can be bound as a book or the individual pages are placed in a tray in the classroom and students choose a different page to do each day.
