This is not your typical reading journal. It will challenge students to think and be proactive during reading, instead of answering a series of questions at the end of the book. If they complete one section for each day, it will give them skill practice with reading skills and literary elements.
Practice looking for evidence and supporting claims is part of many Language Arts classes. A small taste of that is present in this journal, as well as literary and reading elements found on MAP and PARCC testing.
The journal is designed to use for the whole school year for students who want to know specifically how much they need to complete each day.
There is the flexibility in the journal, that the teacher may designate which literary elements students are to look for as they read.
