Not a typical reading journal.
Looking for evidence and supporting claims is part of many Language Arts classes. A small taste of that is present in this journals. As literary elements/reading skills are taught (see schedule) students are asked to practice them in their independent reading.
The journals are designed to use for the whole school year. An additional blank unstructured journal is included for customization, if you have your own sequence of skill instruction. Students record information/examples as they find it.
My students were asked to complete 2-3 sections a night to have the journal completed in two weeks. This usually involved finding two appropriate quotes and writing explanations. (~4 sentences a night) Time during bell work could be used to initial and date completed work.
