Giving students journal style choices empowers them.
Literary elements and reading strategies are implemented in this journal. Students record specific information for each day of reading. Some of the responses involve quotes and interpretation, a precursor to looking for evidence and supporting claims in many Language Arts classes.
This journal is also good practice for elements found on MAP and PARCC testing.
The journal is a day by day, two week journal. Teachers or students may pick the type of questions asked, connections made and literary elements identified. Unlike my other journals, this one also includes a vocabulary component.
