Are you tired of dragging your students' Reading Journals (composition books) home to check and grade their responses? I have found a way to make the grading process much easier and beneficial for your student’s learning! Weekly, my students write me a letter about what they are reading in class. This has students work on the writing process and their writing and reading skills, which gives you a grade for both.
This download contains the format students will follow to assure they are set up for success. I have found this to be beneficial for 3-5th grade students as a reminder of the appropriate letter format. This could be a good tool for 6-8th grade remedial classrooms. Students glue a copy of this sheet into their Reading Journal (RJ) as a reference for the year.
If you like this idea, please check out the checklist students use, the letter I give each student at the beginning of the year and the rubrics I use.
