This convenient graphic organizer combines skills students should be doing every time they read a text with the essentials skills and concepts found in the Common Core, specifically Iowa Core, document. It is one page, front and back, and is broken into Key Ideas and Details and Craft and Structure. The Key Ideas and Details includes skills such as questioning, visualizing, making connections, central idea with important details, providing evidence for inferencing, plot map, and summary. The Craft and Structure section provides students the opportunity to think like the author and see how the author structured the text by analyzing word choice, character development and point of view, and determining genre. Each section could be used individually as a mini-lesson while working up to having students complete this every time they read literature. A great tool so students know how the teacher wants them to respond every time they work on a new skill. This is great for differentiation because it can be used with any level of text but the skills are aligned to 8th grade standards.
