Description

This resource is perfect for students who need additional support with standards. Research indicates that student performance is linked to their ability to practice and apply skills. This resource is designed to give students deliberate practice with familiar texts that allows them to engage in more complex skills within a standard. Teachers print a “student anthology” that includes six different texts. The anthology includes high interest poetry, Greek Mythology, an adventure story, a folktale and a short story. Students use the anthology to practice different skills. Therefore, students are not reading new passages to practice skills, but rather using the same text with different skills. Each text is aligned with at least two of the reading literature skills, and extension activities and ideas are also included. Resources included are aligned to the following texts:

★ Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost
★ The House of Mapuhi by Jack London
★ Daedalus and Icarus
★ The Emperor’s New Suit by Hans Christian Andersen
★ Riding with Jayce and Nesh
★ Ode to Family Photographs by Gary Soto

This resource can be used as test preparation, with a small group, or as a whole group activity. It also requires minimal preparation (beyond knowing the standards) for teachers. Just print, copy, and use! Please download the preview for a glimpse of the resources.
