My students do much better when they have to show me what they've read.
This can be used as a class competition against others in your grade level or school, or as a competition within your own classroom.
During a recent school competition where the idea was introduced by our school librarian, my students went from reading minimally to reading over 3,000 minutes in a week's time. I created my own log that can be used for a period of six weeks, but checked each Friday, to hopefully continue their eagerness to read at home.
In order for the minutes to count, the reading log must be signed.
